How to Apply for Legalization

Legalization is a process of document authentication observed by some governments.Documents issued in Fiji to be used in China should be legalized by the Chinese Embassy in Fiji before they are sent to China.

1. Procedures are as follows:

1) Have the document issued by the Fiji government (Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, No Criminal Record, etc.) authenticated directly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji, then by the Chinese Embassy in Fiji.

2) Have the non-governmental document issued in Fiji ( Declaration, Power of Attorney, Invitation Letter etc.) notarized by a local Notary Public and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji, then by the Chinese Embassy in Fiji.

2. Notice:

1) In accordance with the international practice and the Chinese regulation, the Chinese Embassy authenticates only the officer's signature and the seal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji and will not responsible for the contents of the documents.

2) Documents notarized by Notary Public, authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji and the Chinese Embassy should be in their original shape. Applicants should not take apart the original documents (notarized or authenticated) or attach any other pages to the original documents, otherwise should bear full legal responsibility aroused.

3. Requirements:

1) One completely filled out application form.

2) Original document to be authenticated.

3) For personal document: original and copy of the passport of the applicant. But if the application is submitted by an agent, original passport of the applicant can be instead of a paper copy, and the original passport or ID (Driver Licence, FNPF Card etc. ) of the agent is required.

4) For company document: copy of the company registration certificate with the name of person in charge of the company on itoriginal and copy of the passport of the person in charge. But if the application is submitted by an agent, the original passport of the person in charge can be instead of a paper copy, and the original passport or ID (Driver Licence, FNPF Card etc. ) of the agent is required.

5) Other documents required by the Chinese Embassy.


4.Points to note when filling out the Application Form for Consular Authentication:

(1) This form contains the columns of "applicant's signature" and "agent's signature", both of which must provide the original signatures, and cannot be replaced by faxes or photocopies.

(2) The applicant's ID information fills in the passport information.

(3) Please fill in the prefecture-level city where the document is used.

(4) The notarization of marital status, non-spouse statement or certificate for marriage boarding in mainland China, and the notarization of marital status, health, property, income and no criminal record for adoption in mainland China are from the date of notarization to The date of application for consular authentication shall be valid for no more than 6 months, and those exceeding the validity period shall not be authenticated.
