On December 10th, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian paid a courtesy call on the new Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji Hon. Filimone Jitoko. The two sides had friendly exchanges on China-Fiji relations and legislature cooperation.
Ambassador Zhou Jian first conveyed the warm greetings from Mr Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Ambassador Zhou Jian said that China and Fiji enjoy longlasting friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, two sides have always respected each other, treated each other with sincerity, and enhanced win-win cooperation. Since Prime Minister Rabuka successfully visited China in August, China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership will reach a new height under the strategic guidance of both leaders. China is willing to further deepen practical cooperation and exchanges between two countries in various fields, including the legislative bodies.
Speaker Jitoko spoke highly of Fiji-China friendship, and thanked China for long-term support for Fiji’s national development. He reiterated that Fiji’s Parliament adheres to the one-China principle and is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two legislatures. By enhancing mutual understanding and friendship, Fiji-China relations will definitely benefit two peoples.
