Events Held to Celebrate the 40 Years of China-Fiji Diplomatic Relations

On 5th November, the Chinese Embassy in Fiji held a series of events including a photo exhibition featuring China-Fiji friendship and cooperation, a symposium and a reception to celebrate the 40 years of the establishment of China-Fiji diplomatic relations. President Nailatikau, Prime Minister Bainimarama, Speaker Jiko Luveni, Chief Justice Anthony Gates, and Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Mereiseini Vuniwaqa as well as other Fijian Ministers attended the aforementioned events. Members of diplomatic corps and international organizations, representatives of Chinese companies and Chinese community groups were also invited.

    

Prime Minister Bainimarama opened the symposium by delivering a key-note speech, in which he spoke highly of the development of China-Fiji relations over the past 40 years. He also appreciated China's support for Fiji in pursuing its own path of development, reiterated Fiji's commitment to the One China Policy. Bainimarama also called for continuous support from China on issues of climate change and sustainable development.

   

Ambassador Zhang Ping reviewed the fruitful bilateral political and economic relations as well as friendly exchange in the fields of education, culture and health in the past four decades, emphasizing that the fundamental starting point and ultimate goal of China-Fiji relations are to benefit the lives of the peoples and achieve common development. Zhang said that China stood ready to work with the Fijian side to further develop the Mutual Respect and Common Development Partnership and open to a new chapter of the friendship between China and Fiji.

   

President Nailatikau also highly praised the fruitful bilateral relations between China and Fiji when he looked at photos on exhibition with great interests.
