From February 20th to 21st , "Winston", an ever strongest tropical cyclone in the southern hemisphere swept Fiji causing serious property losses and casualties. China empathizes with Fijian people on their sufferings. On February 21st, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent a message of condolences to Fijian Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and through him, extended his deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the Fijian Government and people, promising that China would provide emergent disaster relief assistance within its capability. On the afternoon of February 22nd, Chinese Embassy in Fiji forwarded 100,000 USD of emergency humanitarian aid from China Red Cross Society to the Fijian counterpart. The aid is the first donation that Fiji Red Cross Society has received from foreign government since the strike of "Winston".

Chinese Embassy in Fiji is in close connection with relevant departments of Fijian Government for the disaster situation and the needs of Fiji. China is willing to continue to provide humanitarian aid to Fiji and actively participate in its reconstruction, sparing no effort to help the Fijian people rebuild their homes.
