On February 20th, "Winston", an ever strongest tropical cyclone in the Southern Hemisphere swept Fiji causing serious property losses and casualties.

On February 21st, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent a message of condolences to Fijian Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola. In the message, Wang Yi expresses that China empathizes with Fijian people on their sufferings and will provide emergent disaster relief assistance within its capability. China believes that under the joint efforts of the Fijian Government and people, Fiji will surely conquer the disaster and rebuild homes for the people.

On the morning of February 22nd, Mr. Gu Yu, Charge d’ Affaires ad Interim of Chinese Embassy in Fiji formally forwarded the message to Minister Kubuabola in person.
