Chinese Embassy in Fiji Holds a Reception to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

The Chinese Embassy in Fiji held a grand reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on September 19th. Over 400 guests attended, including President of the Republic of Fiji H.E. Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Biman Chand Prasad, Acting Chief Justice His Lordship Salesi Temo, ministers, parliamentarians, the diplomatic corps, and representatives of Chinese businesses, the Chinese community and people from all walks of life in Fiji.


Ambassador Zhou Jian gave a briefing on China's historic achievements over the past 75 years and the fruitful results of China-Fiji relations in the past year. Noting that next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji, he expressed hope for the bilateral relations to scale new heights to the benefit of the two countries and two peoples.  

On behalf of the Fijian government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chief of Protocol Mr Paulo Daurewa proposed a toast to the prosperity of the People’s Republic of China. 

The guests enjoyed a rich cultural program, including performances by an art troupe from Guangzhou, Hanfu (traditional clothing of the Han Chinese) show presented by embassy staff, and a lucky draw by the Fiji rugby team. The stunning performances made headlines and started a craze for Chinese culture.
