On April 2, Ambassador Zhou Jian accompanied Fijian Prime Minister Rabuka to Vanua Levu to inspect the China-aided road upgrading project.
Ambassador Zhou and Prime Minister Rabuka drove for two hours to examine the current state of three sections of the road. They received briefings on the urban planning from the Commissioner of Northern Division of Fiji, and reports from the Chinese research team, collectively envisioning the significant impact of this project on the local economic and social development.
Prime Minister Rabuka warmly met with the Chinese research team, praising the experts for conducting field research and surveys despite the intense heat. He expressed gratitude for China’s generous assistance, stating that the project will greatly improve infrastructure on Vanua Levu, help narrow the urban-rural gap in Fiji, and facilitate coordinated development between Vanua Levu and Viti Levu. Rabuka urged relevant Fijian departments to fully cooperate with the Chinese side, actively promoting the project’s feasibility studies and implementation to better benefit the people.
