On July 1, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Fiji Wang Yuan published on The Fiji Sun and The Fiji Times, mainstream Fijian media, a signed article “105 Years of Perseverance: Embarking on a New Journey of Progress”. The article mainly introduced the glorious journey and historical experience of the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasized the great achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC, and underlined that the CPC is a party that strives for the happiness of the Chinese people, and it is also a party dedicated to the cause of human progress. The full text is as follows.

Today marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). On 1 July 1921, thirteen young people, with an average age of 28, gathered aboard a small boat on Nanhu Lake near Shanghai of China to announce the founding of the CPC. At that time, the Party had just over 50 members nationwide.
Today, 105 years later, the CPC has grown into the world’s largest governing party, with more than 100 million members, leading a country of over 1.4 billion people.
Over the past 105 years, under the leadership of the CPC, China’s economy has expanded rapidly, and the country’s overall national strength has increased significantly. Following the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, China established its basic socialist system and promoted economic development through measures such as the Five-Year Plans.
After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee in 1978, China launched its policy of reform and opening up and began developing a socialist market economy. In 2010, China became the world’s second-largest economy. Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the country’s economy has entered a stage of high-quality development.
By 2025, China’s gross domestic product (GDP) had surpassed US$20 trillion, accounting for approximately 17 percent of global GDP. China has become the only country possessing all industrial categories defined under the United Nations industrial classification system. It is also the world’s largest trading nation in goods, the holder of the largest foreign exchange reserves, and one of the largest destinations for foreign direct investment.
Looking back over this remarkable journey, the CPC has led the Chinese people in finding a development path suited to China’s own national conditions. China’s development has also had a profound impact on the world, making important contribution to the noble cause of peace and development for humanity.
What is behind the CPC’s success?
The remarkable achievements of the CPC are far from accidental. They are rooted in a series of enduring strengths that have enabled the Party to remain at the forefront of the times and earn the wholehearted support of the Chinese people.
First, upholding firm ideals and convictions. From the day it was founded 105 years ago, the CPC made the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation its historic mission. It adopted the pursuit of communism and socialism as its guiding objective and has consistently explored ways to realise these aspirations.
The CPC united and led the Chinese people in overthrowing the “three mountains” of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucratic capitalism, founding the People’s Republic of China, where the people are the masters of the country, and achieving national independence and the liberation of the Chinese people.
From establishing the basic socialist system after the founding of China, to exploring and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics during the reform and opening-up period, and, since the 18th CPC National Congress, further strengthening and improving that system, the Party has continually advanced the cause of socialism.
In 2021, China achieved the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, marking a significant milestone toward the Second Centenary Goal of building a modern socialist country. This has fulfilled a centuries-old aspiration of the Chinese nation and honoured the CPC’s solemn commitment to the Chinese people and to history, while making an important contribution to human progress.
Second, guided by advanced theory. History has shown that without the leadership of an advanced political party guided by advanced theory, China could neither have achieved national unity nor embarked on the path toward prosperity and strength under socialism.
Over the past 105 years, the CPC has continuously adapted and developed Marxism to China’s realities and the needs of the times, opening new frontiers in Marxist theory. This process has witnessed a series of major theoretical achievements, including Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Theory of the Three Represents, the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
Today, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, China is comprehensively advancing Chinese modernization and striving to achieve the Two Centenary Goals and realise the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation. More recently, Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building has been developed as the fundamental guiding principle for strengthening Party building in the new era.
Third, putting the people first. Throughout its 105-year history, the CPC has consistently placed the people at the centre of its work. The people’s aspiration for a better life has always been the Party’s ultimate goal.
During the revolutionary years, countless martyrs sacrificed their lives to secure national independence and the liberation of the Chinese people.
Following the founding of China, the Party has remained committed to improving people’s well-being. Through the system of people’s congresses and the framework of socialist consultative democracy, it has sought broad public participation in decision-making, ensuring that the Party’s policies are translated into the conscious actions of the people.
In 2020, China eliminated absolute poverty for the first time in its history, resolving a problem that had persisted for thousands of years.
By 2025, China’s per capita disposable income had reached US$6279, while the country’s middle-income population had grown to more than 400 million—the world’s largest and one of its fastest-growing middle-income groups.
Independent opinion polls conducted by several internationally recognised institutions consistently show that public support for the CPC and the Chinese Government exceeds 90 percent, ranking among the highest levels of public confidence in governments worldwide.
Fourth, the courage to reform itself. One of the key reasons the CPC has remained vibrant and resilient throughout its long history is its willingness to undertake self-reform and continuously strengthen its capacity to combat corruption and manage risks.
As early as August 1926, shortly after its founding, the Party issued its first anti-corruption directive, demonstrating its firm commitment to fighting corruption and maintaining its own integrity.
In 1951, after assuming national leadership, the Party launched its first major campaign of self-rectification, taking firm action against corruption, waste, bribery and other forms of misconduct among Party members and officials. This initiative established a strong tradition of strict Party governance and clean government.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Party has introduced and revised a wide range of foundational regulations while continuously advancing the comprehensive strengthening of Party discipline. By confronting problems directly and maintaining the determination to reform itself from within, it has opened a new chapter in the self-renewal of a century-old governing party.
The CPC: working for the progress of humanity
Since its founding, the CPC has embraced as its highest ideal the vision set out in the Manifesto of the Communist Party of “the free development of every individual.” It has also regarded the pursuit of the common good for humanity as an enduring mission. As General Secretary Xi Jinping has observed, “The Communist Party of China is a party that strives for the happiness of the Chinese people, and it is also a party dedicated to the cause of human progress.”
China was one of the first countries in the world to suffer aggression from fascist forces and was an active advocate and a driving force behind the establishment of the international anti-fascist united front. In the struggle to secure victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the CPC not only helped forge and steadfastly upheld the domestic national united front against Japanese aggression, but also consistently worked to strengthen the international anti-fascist united front. The victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance in 1945 opened a bright new chapter for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, while also making significant contribution to the global victory over fascism and the preservation of world peace.
Today, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has entered an irreversible historical process. China is a responsible major country with growing international influence, stronger capacity for innovation, and greater moral appeal. The vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity embodies the worldview, vision of international order, and values of the CPC. It also reflects the Party’s commitment to making greater contribution to human development and progress. This vision has been incorporated into both the Constitution of China and the Constitution of the CPC, and has become a central mission of China’s diplomacy.
To advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, China advocates an equal and orderly multipolar world, upholding the principle that all countries, regardless of size, are equal. Over the past 12 years, the Belt and Road Initiative has delivered tangible benefits to more than 150 countries. More than 30 multilateral cooperation platforms covering a wide range of professional fields have been established, and numerous flagship infrastructure projects and “small yet smart” livelihood projects have been implemented, providing the world with important global public goods and an effective platform for international cooperation.
In response to an increasingly complex range of global challenges, General Secretary Xi Jinping has put forth four major global initiatives. The Global Development Initiative focuses on advancing international development cooperation; the Global Security Initiative promotes dialogue and consultation as the means to resolve international disputes; the Global Civilization Initiative seeks to foster exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations; and the Global Governance Initiative sets out the direction, principles and pathways for reforming the global governance system.
As the Chinese saying goes, “A just cause enjoys abundant support, and the world is one family.” The CPC has always regarded making new and greater contribution to humanity as one of its fundamental missions. In addressing profound changes unseen in a century and tackling common challenges facing humanity, China continues to contribute its wisdom and offer its solutions for a better shared future.
China and Fiji: standing together for a shared future
Fiji is the Pacific Island Country with the deepest historical ties to China, the earliest diplomatic relations with China, and some of the most substantive bilateral cooperation. More than five decades of China–Fiji friendship and cooperation reflect the CPC’s enduring commitment to serving the people and promoting international friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975, China and Fiji have consistently treated each other with mutual respect, supported one another, and pursued mutually beneficial cooperation, setting an example of equality and solidarity between countries of different sizes. When President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in August 2024, he reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Fiji to build a China–Fiji community with a shared future, opening a new chapter of comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
China’s cooperation with Fiji has always been guided by good faith, commitment to delivering on its promises, and a practical, results-oriented approach. Bilateral trade reached US$652 million in 2025, an increase of 22.1 percent over the previous year. China’s imports from Fiji totaled US$73 million, up 162.5 percent. China-aided infrastructure projects—including the Suva Multifunctional Stadium, Stinson Parade Bridge, and Vatuwaqa Bridge—have significantly improved the quality of life for the Fijian people.
Over the past 12 years, the China-aided Juncao project has expanded to more than 2,500 hectares, directly benefiting over 10,000 people. The rice assistance programme, now in its eleventh year, has been implemented across many places of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, bringing tangible benefits to communities throughout Fiji. China has also sent doctors and other medical professionals to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, providing quality healthcare to countless Fijian families. Through the “Bright Journey” programme, Chinese medical teams have come to Fiji multiple times, restoring sight to hundreds of patients suffering from eye diseases.
Meanwhile, the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project has completed its preliminary design review. Construction is expected to begin as soon as the contractor is selected. Once completed, the project will substantially improve infrastructure on Vanua Levu, help narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas, and lay a stronger foundation for Fiji’s long-term economic growth and prosperity.
Climate change is a common challenge facing all humanity. To address this challenge, the CPC has led the Chinese people in pursuing a path of modernization that prioritizes ecological conservation and green, low-carbon development. In April this year, the 2026 China–Pacific Island Countries (PICs) Climate Action Cooperation and Exchange Week was launched in Suva. At the event, China announced the establishment of the PICs Climate Change Adaptation Technology Innovation Center, which will help strengthen Fiji’s capacity and resilience in responding to climate change. Through concrete actions, China is working hand in hand with Fiji to protect our planet Earth—the only home shared by all humanity.
Standing at a new historical starting point, the Chinese people, under the strong leadership of the CPC, remain united with shared original aspiration and steadfast in their efforts to continue advancing Chinese modernization. As China continues to develop, it will create even more opportunities for Fiji and other countries around the world, working together to build a brighter and more prosperous future for all.
